A new partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation

Collecting, analysing and publishing data is a key part of how we aim to spark a feminist transformation in the international social impact sector. With the FAIR SHARE Monitor, we track the proportion of women on staff and in leadership in over 60 organisations and publish this data annually to hold the sector accountable for gender equity.

Since running the first FAIR SHARE Monitor in 2019, we have been working to make it a more intersectional tool that can paint a more nuanced picture of representation in the sector. In 2021, as a first step in this direction, we expanded the survey to also ask about Black, Brown, Indigenous women and women of colour (BIWoC) on staff and in leadership (read more about that here).

We are excited to announce that we will continue and deepen this work in collaboration with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation as a member of this year’s Data Governance cohort in their Data Accelerator programme.

The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation aims to catalyse the transformational potential of technology, data science and AI to tackle the challenges of our world by working with various sectors to build more equitable systems, increase participation and democratise resources.

We are grateful for this opportunity to work with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation and learn from our cohort peers to develop policies and processes that improve our data quality and ensure all data is collected and handled ethically. Our goal in this 1-year programme is to develop an intersectional feminist data governance model and strategy which in turn will allow us to expand the scope and impact of the FAIR SHARE Monitor.

“This is the first year that we’re running our Accelerator program with a cohort specifically seeking to advance their impact missions through more robust data governance practices — we designed the content in response to common requests from our past nonprofit partners for support in areas like data security, privacy, and leveraging modern technology in the cloud,” said Nikita Japra, Director, Data Practice at the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. “We’re honoured to partner with FAIR SHARE of Women Leaders to advance their data journey while supporting their efforts to hold the social impact sector accountable for gender equity.”

We look forward to this new stage in our gender data journey and to sharing what we learn with you!
