FAIR SHARE is looking for its next Co-Executive Director

Co-Executive Director
Job Announcement

FAIR SHARE of Women Leaders (FAIR SHARE) is seeking a Co-Executive Director to join us on our feminist leadership journey. Candidates of all gender identities are welcome to apply.

Please note: FAIR SHARE is a charitable organisation registered in Germany, and our office is located in Berlin. While most of the team is based in Berlin, this position is not limited to Germany-based candidates. However, to allow for meaningful interactions and meaningful work patterns between team members, candidates should ideally be located within a maximum 3-hour time difference from Germany/CET.

About FAIR SHARE

FAIR SHARE of Women Leaders aims to spark and sustain a feminist transformation of the international social impact sector. We do this by monitoring the proportion of women in the top leadership of civil society organisations and creating spaces for individuals and organisations to explore Feminist Leadership as a tool to transform their leadership styles and organisation cultures.

In early 2023, FAIR SHARE embarked on a co-leadership journey not only to practise what we preach when it comes to feminist leadership and power sharing, but also to experiment with different approaches to leadership and decision-making. As an organisation working toward gender equity and advocating for Feminist Leadership, we view leadership as inherently embedded in every single role at FAIR SHARE and strive to continuously create feminist structures and processes for our work internally and externally. With one of the co-leadership positions now vacant, we are looking for an individual passionate about gender equity and excited to join our young organisation and vibrant team.

We strive for the FAIR SHARE team to be reflective of our intersectional feminist values and overall commitment to diversity and inclusion. To that end, we highly encourage applications from candidates belonging to historically marginalised and underrepresented groups such as racialised people, LGBTQIA+ people, women and non-binary individuals, people living with disabilities, etc.

In addition, our organisational governance is based on transparency and trust, shared ownership of our mission and vision, diversity and inclusion, collective decision-making and transformational change. These are the values we seek to continuously nurture in our team.

If you are committed to gender equity and feminist transformations, are open to experimenting with different approaches towards building feminist futures and aren’t intimidated by the process of unlearning, learning and experimenting that comes with growing a young feminist organisation like FAIR SHARE, then this role may be for you!

Scope of work

Given the small size of our team, the Co-Executive Director position is a hands-on role, including operational and project responsibilities. The two Co-Executive Directors are accountable to the FAIR SHARE Advisory Council and share the following overarching responsibilities:

Strategy and Impact

  • Steer the implementation of FAIR SHARE’s strategic framework to ensure the realisation and continuous development of organisational objectives
  • Maintain a bird’s-eye view of FAIR SHARE’s different programmatic areas and ensure alignment with overall organisational objectives
  • Co-create the design and use of a meaningful impact-measurement mechanism to assess the impact of FAIR SHARE’s work in the wider social impact sector
  • Travel internationally (approx. 2-5 times a year) to represent FAIR SHARE in relevant feminist and social justice spaces as well as for team building purposes

Finances and Fundraising

  • Monitor and review organisational finances as well as financial risks and opportunities, together with the internal financial lead and the treasurer of the Advisory Council
  • Create and implement strategies for fundraising efforts to raise core as well as project-specific funding
  • Support fundraising team members in the development and implementation of a sustainable fundraising plan to ensure FAIR SHARE financial stability
  • Participate in relationship-building with relevant funders and stakeholders
  • Provide input in annual budgeting processes by the Finance team

Organisational Development

  • Further develop and strengthen internal organisational processes at FAIR SHARE, including mechanisms such as internal communications, team policies and processes or collective learning
  • Co-shape, prepare and facilitate such as bi-annual team days, quarterly reflections, fundraising sprints, etc, together with the team and our external organisational development consultant
  • Nurture and further develop FAIR SHARE’s feminist leadership principles and values, together with the team

People and Culture

  • Work with the FAIR SHARE team to create a healthy and collaborative team environment
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members in project management, work planning and prioritisation, as well as conflict management when needed.
  • Contribute to the identification and coordination of individual and organisational learning and capacity-building opportunities for the team

Feminist Governance

  • Work with FAIR SHARE’s Advisory Council towards the realisation of the organisation’s strategy and vision
  • Provide strategic and financial reports to Advisory Council
  • Participate in the Advisory Council’s periodic sessions (4-6 times/year) for collective learning, decision-making and strategising towards the implementation of a feminist governance model at FAIR SHARE
  • Ensure entry points for wider stakeholders in the FAIR SHARE ecosystem (e.g. voting members, project partners) to play a meaningful role in governance

We envision co-leadership as a space that is co-shaped from the very beginning, ensuring space for the incoming person to co-design the roles together. Therefore, the specific distribution of responsibilities and tasks will be elaborated by the two Co-Executive Directors at the beginning of their shared term, based on experiences, skills, interests and organisational needs.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a curious and creative person, excited about the prospect to co-shape the further development of a budding organisation. You should enjoy juggling a variety of tasks in close communication and collaboration with the other Co-Executive Director and the 9-person team. International outreach, community-building and fundraising will be strategic priorities, alongside innovative project development and impact measurement. Continuously combining a visionary mindset with operational implementation will be key to this leadership role.
